Excelsior & Outer Mission Streetscape Design Guidelines

Employer: San Francisco Planning Department

I supported San Francisco’s Excelsior & Outer Mission neighborhood public realm improvements by helping draft the Streetscape Design Guidelines through a year-long process that involved extensive community engagement. I assisted in the creation and implementation of the engagement plan, the design of outreach materials, as well as the drafting and production of the final document.

Engagement EFFORTS: 3 open houses, Attended 5+ neighborhood association meetings, 1 pop-up event, tabling and intercept surveys at 2 community events, online surveys via SurveyMonkey, and with youth (2nd and 4th graders) via Y-Plan Program.

Outreach Collateral:24x36” Presentation boards, 11x17” hand-outs, 8.5x11” paper surveys, 4x6”mailing postcards, 15x20” posters, InDesign templates, diagrams, maps, and icons. Also, helped draft content for outreach materials and website.

Phase 1: Project Introduction

Group Asset Mapping ~ 15 min

First, we printed out a map of the park. We asked the attendees to mark areas they frequent and describe the amenities that exist or are needed. This activity was used to spark conversation about how the park is used.
